The Dutch government assists entrepreneurs in many ways, from providing money to making it easier. If your business idea meets the requirements of one of the subsidy programs, you can apply for a grant through the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).
Subsidies are basically support from the government to check my site certain industries or businesses that wouldn’t be financially viable without it. Subsidies are usually provided to help struggling industries and to encourage new developments or to promote specific policies or social benefits. They may be successful economically but they will be costly to other groups (for instance a food subsidy helps farmers, while raising prices for consumers) It is also possible that they fail economically, yet achieve political and cultural goals.
Subsidies provided by the government can take many forms. These include tax breaks, grants and rebates as well as direct cash payments to customers or suppliers. They can also be indirect, like road taxes that are paid by all motorists, rather than just those who travel on roads, or railway track access fees which are not exclusively imposed for passenger trains.
Advocates of subsidy programs claim that they improve efficiency of the economy by protecting from competition from outside sources or promoting domestic production. They can also be beneficial in preventing market failures like externalities or information imbalances. However, critics claim that these policies can have negative consequences, ranging from inequality to corruption and that they crowd out more efficient and equitable public spending. They also can result in perverse incentives. For instance, a company that benefits from a government-granted subsidy is likely to be motivated to donate to politicians, which can contribute to “regulatory capture” and rent-seeking.
